The fruit is for everyone to share, so don't take more than you can eat at home, and only pick when it is ripe:
- For apples, twist the fruit through half a turn and pull gently, if it is ripe it will come away without too much effort. If the whole branch moves as you pull it isn't ripe and won't be eatable.
- For Pears, press gently at the stem end and if it is soft then it is ready for picking. Pears don't ripen fully on the tree and will need a few days at room temperature before they are ready to eat.
- For plums, gently squeeze the fruit and if ripe it will feel soft.
- For cherries - red is ripe!
SPRING is a beautiful time in the orchard, with the blossom at its best.
