ABOUT the park
The Green Flag has been awarded to Sunnydale Park in 2023 for another year. We are pleased to pass on the congratulations from Leon our community Parks Officer and his thanks to all the guys who help look after this park (and our other parks).
Sunnydale was created from scrub-land and old allotments. From Rosamonds Ride, Cuttle Brook runs through the eastern part of the park, while further west there is a play area, and an all weather cricket pitch. Woods lead through to an open area with many young trees, emerging at Blagreaves Lane. There are many paths for a walk through these diverse habitats which are a haven for many species of wildlife.
Visitors to the park over the last few years will have seen major work being carried out. A summary of the what has been done and why can be found here.
butterfly moundOne of the features created during the work was the creation of an area of white stones in a corner behind the children's playground. Often referred to as the 'helicopter pad', it was in fact created as an area in which plants that would attract butterflies would thrive. Those plants are now beginning to get established.
